Firstly, we would like to thank our contributors and supporters without whom this magazine would not be possible. With this issue of Arkangel, you will find all of the regular features bar one: Robin Webb, ALF Press Spokesperson, was unable to contribute an article as he was preoccupied with the preparation of two court appearances, one relating to Hillgrove, the other Harlan. There is a growing sense of positivity within the Animal Liberation movement, particularly since the closure of both Hillgrove and Shamrock Farms, and a renewed determination to free all animals from abuse. The combined forces of the struggle led to the collapse of these two establishments; excellent organisation and an unremitting campaign of personal endeavour. Other such establishments, where our animal sisters and brothers are systematically tortured, could soon follow in their wake. Although the forces of "law and order" are reinforcing their armies to combat what they perceive as "the terrorist threat", the animal liberation movement, driven by a sense of justice, compassion and understanding, shall prevail. Lines are being drawn between other struggles and the protests against capitalism and multinational corporations have highlighted environmental destruction, racism and animal exploitation. The rise in awareness and personal responsibility can be partly attributed to the Fresh Network and the burgeoning raw food movement. The rising interest in veganism brings all of these struggles together to form a broad-based movement which rejects the notion of greed and personal self-interest. We are on the crest of a wave which stands to wash away the hatred of non-human animals and of Nature itself. The changes taking place are absolute and the ties that bind us cannot be broken. |
