London Calling, November 2001

Class War at the Anarchist Bookfair

This year's bookfair moved to the new surroundings of the Camden Centre on Euston Road, having largely outgrown Conway Hall. Many of the meetings, including ours, were at the adjacent Friends Meeting House a few minutes west along Euston Road. At 11am Class War member Dave Douglass and author Royce Turner debated the state of Britain's coal communities following the defeat of the miners in 1984-5.

From 1pm-2pm Class War held a discussion "Is the anti-globalisation movement relevant to the working class?". Just how do we turn the slogan think globally act locally into practice? The discussion was chaired by London Class War with a speaker from the group, and we threw open the discussion at the earliest opportunity, for some good and constructive debate.

The bookfair offered a great opportunity to those wanting to know more about Class War, the organisation, to come along and get involved. We had two tables booked in the Camden Centre and saw many people for a chat and a drink. A new Class War T-shirt has been produced by Swedish comrades, "Class War - possibly the best war in the world" in Carlsberg typeface, cracking!
