Class War issue 80: Obituary - Arnie Mintz
It is with great sadness that we report the death of Arnie Mintz. Arnie passed away in January of this year, after finally succumbing to the effects of multiple sclerosis. The irascible Arnie, a life-long Trotskyist, strangely, found himself working with anarchists in general and Class War in particular during the Wapping print dispute. He was responsible for bringing into being his baby the Wapping "Picket" strike bulletin.
Picket spoke for and was written directly by the strikers themselves, and as such was a thorn in the side of the print union leadership. Canadian Arnie, from Toronto, was a printworker himself, and had once said that he had been sacked from more than 100 jobs in and around London. This was hardly surprising, given his position of absolutely no compromise with any boss whatsoever. The class struggle will certainly be less intense and more difficult without him. In mourning we extend our greatest sympathies to his family.
