The papers and TV have been full of reports and pictures from the Italian city of Genoa over the last 2 weeks. They have reported how the leaders of the ‘Great 8’ nations have come together to meet in the shadow of mass protests by hundreds of thousands of working class people.
We have been told by the mainstream and left wing media that the violence at the demonstrations were caused by a minority of anarchist troublemakers.
Lets get a few things straight:
They murdered Carlo Giuliani, a 23 year old anarchist, shooting him twice in the face at point blank range - then running a police van over him twice.
They dropped tear gas from helicopters and baton charged demonstrators, regardless of whether they were being violent or not.
They raided a school where protesters were sleeping, beat them, dragged them off to a makeshift detention centre to be beaten more, threatened with rape, forced to sing fascist songs and held with no contact with the outside world for 4 days.
But none of this suprises us. As anarchists we have no illusions about the liberal ‘freedoms’ that a capitalist demorcacy brings. The state - through the police - will be as violent as it needs to be to keep us in our place. Social justice and rights melt like butter in the face of the rich man's desire to cling on to his wealth.
We also know exactly what the lefties are up to - they want to recruit, build their Party and then lead the masses to what they call freedom. This is why they can’t stand the direct action tactics of anarchists. They don’t want us to think and act for ourselves. They don’t want people to organise as equals.
For these reasons we will not take lectures on how to behave from anyone, be it politicians (who spend billions of pounds on military hardware, items specifically designed to kill people), to the media (who never fail to cheer on our governments when they choose to start dropping bombs on people), to left wing groups (who have fucked up every revolutionary movement of the past and built dictatorships just as bad as anything we’ve got now), to the filthy rich capitalist bastards who all of this is done in aid of.
The entire system is built on violence - from the police shooting people dead in the street, to workplace injuries, to pensioners freezing to death in winter, to rail disasters, to third world starvation, to yet another war.
WE ARE ANARCHISTS AND REVOLUTIONARIES. WE WILL OVERTHROW THIS MURDEROUS SYSTEM BY WHATEVER MEANS WE SEE FIT TO USE. WE WILL BE DICTATED TO BY NO-ONE, LEAST OF ALL THOSE WHOSE GREED IS THE CAUSE OF OUR STRUGGLE.
